What Shall I Render?

No matter what your circumstance may be at this time in your life there is always something that you can present to God and to others. I hear the words to that beautiful song that says, “You can’t beat God’s giving, no matter how hard you try”.

What can you give, right now, that would be of benefit to others, your community, the ministry, and ultimately yourself?

The first and most important thing we should all give is ourselves to God. Romans 12:1 declares “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service”. It is necessary for us to realize that we need a Savior, and that our salvation can be found in no other than Jesus Christ. In order for us to present our bodies to Christ we must take three essential steps: repent (turn from sin), be baptized (submerged in water) in the name of Jesus Christ, and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost (which is evidenced by speaking in tongues as the spirit gives utterance).

Already we see that when we give ourselves to God he in turn gives us something even more precious in return, the precious gift of his holy spirit abiding in us. It is essential that we allow the Holy Ghost to lead and guide us each day into all truth, and to empower us with power to heal the sick, raise the dead, and spread the word that Jesus is alive!

What else can we give? Our time, which is so precious and so limited. Daily people and responsibilities claim our attention without us considering what would be the most beneficial use of our time. Often, we are carried along in life without boundaries or forethought to what we are trying to accomplish, and before we realize it we have missed out on God and valuable opportunities in life that might never come again. It is sad to see that so often people give more time and thought to worldly pursuits than spiritual. We have all been guilty of this at some time in our life, if we are honest. How often do we miss out on the chance to help a neighbor or to give an encouraging word because we are too busy? We get so busy working that we miss out on what God is trying to say to us or give to us, even as Martha did in the bible days while Mary sat at the Masters feet.

We are called to be good stewards so that we can give money to help with the work of the ministry. We are admonished to bring our tithes and offerings into the house of the Lord (Malachi3:10). The christian should be willing to make resources available to help the poor and needy, and know that God says, “inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me” (Matthew 25:40).

We each have resources and talents that God has blessed us with that we can give, as well. Each man has been given a portion, and will reap according to how they have cared for and increased what they have been given. Just think of how the Lord took the five loaves and two fish and fed five thousand men in Matthew 14, or how he filled the water pots with wine that was declared better than the first by the governor in John 2. God is able to do great things with what we present to him in faith (more than we could think or imagine). We have talents and gifts that can and should be used in the house of God, and we should seek the Lord concerning our assignment(s) as an usher, choir member, teacher, laity, etc., and give our all to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of these roles with the highest quality and standards knowing that our reward comes from God, not man.

Finally, we can give the word of God, to a lost and dying world. This is the highest calling and greatest duty of every saint to share the gospel with others while there is yet time. What a joy it is to give someone the answer they have been looking for and searching for, but unable to discover on their own. God has given us the key, and we must go out and give what he has given to us to others.
What shall I render? It is for you and me to ultimately decide, but I pray we will each give our best even as Christ has already given His all to us!

Words To Stand On…
Luke 6:38
38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
2 Kings 4:2
And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.
2 Corinthians 9:6
But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
